Sade Sati Calculator: Check Your Dates, Phase and Severity

This Sade Sati calculator tells you whether Saturn is currently transiting the 12th, 1st or 2nd sign from your natal Moon, and returns the exact dates of every Sade Sati cycle in your life — past, present and future. It reads your Moon sign from your birth date, time and place, applies the Lahiri ayanamsa, and scores how demanding the transit is likely to be for your particular chart rather than for your moon sign in general. The result is free and takes about a minute.

What does this calculator tell you?

The calculator returns seven results: whether you are in Sade Sati today, which of the three phases you are in, the exact start and end dates of that phase, the days remaining, your Moon sign and nakshatra, a severity score out of 100, and a complete timeline of every cycle in your life. If you are not in Sade Sati, it checks the two shorter Saturn transits — Kantaka Shani and Ashtama Shani — so the answer is never simply “no”.

Three of those outputs are worth explaining, because most calculators do not provide them.

Your severity score. Sade Sati dates are identical for everyone sharing a moon sign, but the experience is not. The score weighs nine factors from your own chart — your natal Moon’s strength, natal Saturn’s dignity, whether Saturn is functionally supportive for your Ascendant, your running planetary period, aspects on the Moon and Saturn, the current phase, and Saturn’s transiting nakshatra — and returns a single number between 0 and 100.

Your past cycles. The timeline shows the cycles you have already lived through, with dates. This is the fastest way to test whether the framework describes anything real for you: look at the years the calculator names and judge them against your own memory before reading anything about your current cycle.

Honest retrograde windows. Saturn periodically moves backwards and re-enters the previous sign for months at a time, which splits a phase into separate windows. Those windows are shown as they actually fall rather than rounded into one clean block, so the dates match a panchang rather than a simplified estimate.

How do you read your result?

In three steps: your phase first, then your severity score, then the timeline.

  1. Check the diagnosis, then check your past. Confirm the phase and dates at the top, then scroll to the timeline and look at your previous cycle. If those years register as a period of pressure or restructuring in your own life, the rest of the reading rests on something.
  2. Read the severity score as a starting position, not a verdict. A high score identifies which factors in your chart amplify the transit; those same factors are what remedies and preparation address. A low score does not mean nothing happens — it means your chart carries mitigating factors that most moon-sign readings ignore.
  3. Read the phase, not just the cycle. A seven-and-a-half-year period is too long to act on. The phase you are in now — rising, peak or setting — determines what is worth doing over the next two and a half years, and each phase asks for something different. The three phases are set out separately.

How is Sade Sati calculated here?

From your natal Moon’s sidereal position and Saturn’s transit through the twelve signs — not from your sun sign. Your birth date, time and place fix the Moon’s longitude, which fixes your Moon sign; Saturn’s sign on any given date comes from a pre-computed transit table covering 1948 to 2072, including every retrograde station.

The ayanamsa used is Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the standard for Indian panchang calculation. Saturn’s sign-entry dates on this site match published panchang dates to within a day, and the retrograde re-entry windows are preserved rather than smoothed. Birth time is not mandatory: without it you receive a moon-sign baseline, and with it you additionally receive the Ascendant-based factors that usually lower the severity score. If you would rather work it out by hand, how to calculate Sade Sati sets out the counting method with a worked example. The full engine method — ayanamsa, ephemeris, table range and the weighting behind the severity model — is documented on how these dates are calculated.

Which moon signs are in Sade Sati right now?

Mesha (Aries), Meena (Pisces) and Kumbha (Aquarius). Saturn is transiting Pisces, which it entered on 29 March 2025 and leaves permanently on 23 February 2028. Three moon signs are in Sade Sati and two are in Dhaiya.

Two further signs are under a Saturn Dhaiya rather than Sade Sati: Simha (Leo) is in Ashtama Shani and Dhanu (Sagittarius) is in Kantaka Shani. These are two-and-a-half-year transits, counted separately, and are not phases of Sade Sati.

The set changes on 3 June 2027, when Saturn enters Aries. At that point Vrishabha (Taurus) begins its rising phase and Kumbha (Aquarius) leaves Sade Sati for the first time since January 2020.

What does the full report add?

Interpretation and a plan, where the free result gives you the diagnosis. The paid report explains and acts on it. It opens with a one-page dashboard — your severity, your three biggest opportunities and risks, your core Saturn lesson and a five-point action plan — and then works through sixteen chapters: your natal Moon, your natal Saturn, the relationship between them, your running planetary period, all three phases across eleven life areas, a year-by-year forecast, your Saturn events calendar, and the houses Saturn transits in your own chart.

It closes with the practical section: a decision guide answering nine common questions (marriage, job change, house purchase, loans, investments, business, travel, vehicles, children) against your current position, a weekly routine, a 90-day plan, a printable checklist, and more than 25 remedies selected by rule from your chart, each stating why it applies to you. See what the full report contains.

What if you are not in Sade Sati?

Check the Dhaiya result immediately below it — you may be in a shorter Saturn transit instead. Saturn transiting the 4th sign from your Moon produces Kantaka Shani, associated with home, property, vehicles and the mother; transiting the 8th sign it produces Ashtama Shani, associated with sudden change, joint finances and matters that surface unexpectedly. Each lasts about two and a half years, and classical practice treats Ashtama Shani with a seriousness close to the peak phase of Sade Sati itself. Roughly one person in three who is outside Sade Sati is inside one of these, and Shani Dhaiya covers both.

If you are outside all three transits, the calculator still returns your next cycle’s dates. That gap is the preparation window, and it is the cheapest time to build the reserves and habits the next cycle will test.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my birth time to calculate Sade Sati?

No. Your date, place and moon sign are enough to get the dates, because Sade Sati depends only on Saturn’s position relative to your natal Moon. Birth time is needed for the severity score, which uses your Ascendant and the houses. Without it the calculator runs a deliberately conservative baseline model and labels the result as such.

What if I do not know my moon sign?

Enter your birth date, time and place and the calculator works it out. Your moon sign is the sign your Moon occupied at birth, which is rarely the same as the sun sign used in newspaper horoscopes — that difference is the single most common reason people are given the wrong Sade Sati dates.

Is this calculator free?

Yes. Your dates, current phase, all three phase windows, every cycle of your life and your severity score are free. The paid report adds the year-by-year forecast, the decision guide, sixteen interpretive chapters and a 90-day plan — what the full report contains sets out the difference in full.

Why do your dates differ from another website's?

Usually because the other site smooths Saturn’s retrograde motion into one unbroken block, or applies a different ayanamsa. This calculator preserves retrograde re-entries as separate windows, which is why it sometimes shows a break in the middle of a cycle that other tools do not. Why Sade Sati dates differ explains how to tell which result to trust.

Which ayanamsa does this calculator use?

The Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard used for Indian panchang calculation. The transit table is generated from the Swiss Ephemeris and matches its Lahiri values closely — how we calculate documents the method in full.

Can Sade Sati be cancelled or removed by remedies?

No, and any site claiming otherwise is selling something. Sade Sati is a transit; it runs for its full length regardless of what is performed. What the tradition offers is a way of meeting it — Sade Sati remedies sets out the classical hierarchy, which begins with behaviour rather than objects.

Explore Sade Sati

The basics. Sade Sati is the seven-and-a-half-year period during which Saturn transits the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from the natal Moon, measured from the Moon sign rather than the Sun sign. What Sade Sati is covers the definition, why the period exists, how long it lasts and how often it returns.

The three phases. Each Sade Sati divides into three phases of about two and a half years — rising, peak and setting — named for Saturn’s position relative to the natal Moon. The three phases explains what distinguishes them and which is generally hardest.

What it affects. Sade Sati is traditionally associated with pressure across the mind, career, money, marriage, health and family, shifting in emphasis across the three phases. Sade Sati effects covers each area and where the decisions each raises are answered.

Your moon sign. Because Sade Sati dates depend only on the Moon sign, all twelve signs have their own fixed schedule of past and future cycles. Sade Sati for your moon sign gives the current status, exact dates and phase-by-phase reading for each of the twelve rashis.

Shorter Saturn transits. Saturn crossing the 4th or 8th sign from the Moon produces a two-and-a-half-year transit called Dhaiya, distinct from Sade Sati but treated seriously in classical practice. Shani Dhaiya covers Kantaka Shani and Ashtama Shani.

Remedies. Traditional practice prescribes remedies in a hierarchy that begins with lifestyle and discipline, moves through charity, mantra, temple observance and fasting, and treats gemstones as a last and conditional step. Sade Sati remedies sets out the full sequence and the reasoning behind the order.

Method. Calculators disagree about Sade Sati dates for two identifiable reasons: the ayanamsa they apply and whether they smooth Saturn’s retrograde re-entries. How these dates are calculated documents our method in full.
