This site exists to answer one question accurately: when is your Sade Sati, and what does it actually mean for your chart. It was built because the existing calculators answer only the first half of that, and several answer it wrongly — rounding away Saturn’s retrograde movement, reading the transit from the Sun sign, or presenting one regional tradition as though it were universal.
Who runs this site?
This site is built and maintained by Rahul Madathil, an engineer who graduated from College of Engineering Trivandrum in 2006.
He built this calculator out of a long-standing interest in Vedic astrology and a frustration with how carelessly its dates are usually computed. His contribution is the calculation layer, and that is where the expertise claim of this site sits — not in astrological authority, but in getting the astronomy right and being able to show its working.
That is a deliberate division, and it is worth being plain about. Rahul is not a professional astrologer and does not present himself as one. The interpretive content on this site follows established classical sources and is presented as traditional reading rather than personal prediction. Where two traditions disagree, the site says which one it is following instead of choosing silently.
No astrologer currently reviews the interpretive content. That is stated here rather than glossed over, because implying a review that does not happen is worse than not having one.
What is actually different about the calculation?
Four things, each checkable rather than asserted.
- The ayanamsa is verified, not assumed. The Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) value used here matches the Swiss Ephemeris to within 0.001 arcminutes across 1900 to 2100. An error of a few arcminutes is invisible on a page and moves ingress dates by a day or more.
- Retrograde re-entries are preserved, not smoothed. When Saturn turns retrograde and drops back into the previous sign, that is a real break in a Sade Sati cycle. Most calculators average it away and report an unbroken run. This site shows the windows as they actually fall, which is why its dates sometimes disagree with other sites — why Sade Sati dates differ explains how to tell which result to trust.
- Ingress moments are solved to the minute. Saturn’s entry into Pisces falls at 21:44 IST on 29 March 2025, not at some unspecified point during that day. This matters for Paya, which is read from the Moon’s position at that exact moment — the Moon moves about half a degree an hour, so a twelve-hour approximation can land it in the wrong house.
- The severity model is documented, including where it deviates. Every factor and weight is set out on how we calculate, along with the places our weighting departs from a strictly classical reading and why. A score you cannot interrogate is not worth much.
How is the content produced?
The astronomical layer is verified separately from the interpretive one, and the two are never blended.
- The astronomy comes first. Transit dates, phase boundaries and retrograde windows are generated by this site’s own calculation engine and checked against the Swiss Ephemeris. Nothing is copied from another site or written from memory.
- Interpretations are traditional, and labelled as such. Readings draw on established Vedic principles — Saturn’s dignity by sign, functional benefic status by Ascendant, the Vimshottari dasha system, and the classical remedy hierarchy.
- Every date is checkable. If a date here disagrees with your panchang, we want to hear about it. That has happened before and been fixed.
- Nothing is published unreviewed. Content is edited by a person before it goes live.
What this site will not do
Four limits, stated as limits rather than disclaimers.
- We do not predict outcomes. Sade Sati is a period with fixed dates and traditional associations. It is not a forecast, and no page here will tell you that you will lose a job, a relationship or your health.
- We do not prescribe gemstones. Gemstones come last in the classical remedy hierarchy and only under specific chart conditions. Recommending a blue sapphire because Saturn looks weak is poor practice and a common way of selling stones — Shani gemstone sets out the tradition’s own caution.
- We do not use fear as a sales tool. Where a period is demanding we say so, and say what to do about it. Where a chart carries mitigating factors we say that too, even though a frightened reader is an easier customer.
- We do not offer consultations or make personal decisions for you. The reports are structured interpretations of a transit. Decisions about health, money, marriage or legal matters belong with you and with qualified professionals.
